Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Attendance Rules & Regulations
VTU Academic Regulations Clause 18OB / 21OB ยท Karnataka, India
Under VTU regulations, every student must maintain a minimum of 85% attendance in each registered theory subject and practical laboratory course. If attendance falls between 75% and 84%, the Vice-Chancellor may condone the shortage on genuine medical grounds (accompanied by medical certificates) or approved university-level sports/cultural representation. Attendance below 75% results in immediate Non-Submission of Academic Requirements (NSAR) and course detention.
Required for direct exam eligibility
Minimum accepted with verified certificates
Key Attendance Requirements for VTU Students
Standard Requirement: 85% attendance in aggregate contact hours across all theory and practical courses.
Medical Condonation: Shortages between 75% and 84.9% are condonable through College Principals with official VTU Form 3 submission.
Strict Practical Rule: Laboratory classes cannot be skipped casually; missing 2 lab sessions can easily trigger detention in practical exams.
NSAR / Detention: Students with less than 75% attendance are marked NSAR (Not Eligible) and must repeat the semester in the next academic year.
